- Mithun was born as Gaurang Chakraborty on 16 June 1952 in Barisal then in East Bengal Pakistan (Now in Bangladesh).
- He completed his graduation in Chemistry from Scottish Church College in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Latter He attened Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, Maharashtra India.
- Mithun made his first acting debut from a Bengali film Marigaya in 1976 which won for him National Film Award.
- Mithun Chakraborty made his Hindi debute in the same year from the film Do Anjaane.
